Following the Supreme Court's ruling to prohibit the use of race as a factor in college admissions, the Georgia NAACP expresses strong disapproval of this decision. President Gerald Griggs of the Georgia NAACP describes it as a somber moment in American legal history, as it overturns established legal precedents that have existed for decades. In response, the Georgia NAACP pledges to collaborate with the National NAACP to actively advocate for diversity and inclusion in higher education and admissions processes.
"It’s a dark day in American history. 40 years of hard civil rights work was just gutted. The first thought that went through my mind was my daughter. Not only did she lose her right to bodily autonomy, but now she’s lost the right to have the opportunity to compete for education and employment in a just manner. For the Supreme Court to make a decision thatdevalues the impact slavery, racism, and injustice in American history is a move that is detrimental to Black people in America. It sets us back in the civil rights for a generation. We will continue to fight for real diversity, equity and inclusion.”
